A powerful e-bike with a stylish moped-like design
Expert Review :With a name like G-Force you may expect rocket-fast acceleration–like the g-force that pins astronauts to their seats on takeoff.
While you'll get some decent power with the 750W-rated (up to 1300W peak) motor, no doubt, the truth is, it's no rocket. And it's not the rocketship g-force the name is inspired by, either. As the company explains, the "G" is for Generation Force. They've got their eyes on the future and plan to develop all varieties of "long-range short-distance travel tools" for efficient personal transportation.
From their beginnings back in 2017, selling a single model of folding eBike, G-force has grown to feature a lineup of fat-tire, motorcycle-inspired ebikes, and an electric scooter. They aim to continue their trajectory of growth with more innovation in the eBike market at a reasonable cost with maximum value in features and materials.
At a price point hovering right around a thousand bucks, the new T42 Folding Fat Tire Electric Bike has some high-end features, like dual hydraulic brakes, full suspension with adjustable front forks, and of course, the foldable frame designed for ease of transportation and storage. The short and wide 20"X4" puncture-resistant tires are a bit of a pro and a con. One side of the equation is that they're quite a bit smaller than standard 26" tall bike tires, allowing for easier portability in tight spaces, especially when the frame is folded. But, smaller tires mean less efficiency–every turn of those 20-inchers is about one-fifth less distance covered than typical 26-inch wheels on most standard bikes. And that's partly where the electric boost comes in–if you're getting help from the 750W electric motor, you probably won't notice the efficiency difference in the size of the tires versus a typical pedal-powered bike.
Now that they've branched out to other models, G-Force continues to go all-in on the short 20-inch tires. Both the ZM and ZF use the same size 20'X4" short and fat tires, but these two models have a retro motorbike look that's been hot with a few other brands. The ZM is the top-of-the-line G-Force model, going for nearly two grand, and it has the minibike retro look with a battery designed to resemble a fuel tank on the top bar and a long wide saddle. Between the T42 and ZM price extremes sits the ZF, with a low step-through bar and moped-inspired design available for about 1,500 bucks.
G-Force promises more to come in selections and styles. Whatever style you choose, you'll get the g-force of a 750W electric motor that boosts you, but you won't get rocketship acceleration.
