The new RipCurrent S is an upgraded version of the previous RipCurrent. It looks nearly identical except for a few noticeable differences in the frame. It has an intimidating stance and comes in various sizing and color options.
This e-bike comes with a traditional high-step frame but can be swapped out for a step-through RipCurrent S with similar (if not totally the same) features – except you can get these in yellow, blue, or white. Nevertheless, Juiced has done it again with the RipCurrent S, upgrading substantially with greater range, a more powerful battery, and much more.
The motor in the new RipCurrent S is a Bafang RetroBlade that offers 1,000 Watts of continuous power before peaking at 1,300W from the rear gear hub. The RipCurrent S allows Class 3 speeds of 28mph.
The RipCurrent S gives you a high-capacity G2 52V/19.2Ah battery integrated into the middle frame. It offers 998Wh of power, which translates to over 70 miles of total range with the help of pedal assist. You can expect to get about half that far on a full battery on the lowest settings possible. However, this is still impressive in terms of range for an e-bike with this battery and motor.
Charging takes around 8 hours, and the G2 battery is enlisting some cool extra features, like pockets designed to fit Apple AirTags, which can help you find your bike if it’s ever stolen. Also, these types of batteries are dockable in a battery station if not charged with a 2A charger.
RipCurrent S has a decent front suspension. It’s a MoZo air suspension, compression adjusting with lockout. It provides 135mm Hub spacing and a 9mm Skewer with quick release. This e-bike’s pedal assist includes both torque and cadence, which is helpful for riders.
The pedal force is measured at 1000 times per second to apply the proportionate power more accurately. In addition, the high-definition cadence sensor offers over 100 signals per crank revolution which help eliminate any lag.
The thumb throttle gives the rider power on demand without needing to move too much to receive the extra boost. The RipCurrent has a 9-speed Shimano transmission triggered by Mega-Lite triggers on the right handlebar. The handlebars are ergonomic.
Speaking of lights, the RipCurrent S has a 1,050-lumen LED halo front headlight, which is almost as bright and powerful as the HyperScorpion, which offers 2,000 lumens. This is still more powerful than you see in most e-bike lights. It also comes with a USB port to power mountable devices. Unlike the OG RipCurrent, however, the RipCurrent S has an integrated rear rack and fenders that cover the tires.
This e-bike is on the lighter scale of the Juiced line, being a sound 76 pounds with the battery and 65 pounds without. The seat is sleeker than the original RipCurrent, which features a Selle Royal A306 URO seat. Depending on the size of the bike (medium, large, and XL), the seat and handlebars match up to create a controlled, comfortable ride. The medium fits riders 5’4” to 6’0”, the large fits 5’8” to 6’3”, and the XL fits riders 6’0” and up.
The RipCurrent S can carry up to 300 pounds, not including the 50 pounds the rear rack can hold. The rack is something you don’t see on the original RipCurrent. Unlike the moped-like e-bikes from Juiced, RipCurrent S has opted out of including turning signals and side mirrors. It still has a Star Union rear LED taillight, however.
The tires on the RipCurrent S are Kenda Krusade 26″x4″ puncture-resistant fat tires. The width of these tires provides exquisite control and comfort in rocky situations, and they’re backed by the double-walled aluminum wheels they are mounted on.
The brakes on the RipCurrent S are also inherited from other Juiced e-bikes. They’re Tektro HD-E350 hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors, dual piston calipers, and three-finger levers with motor inhibitors and adjustable reach.
The RipCurrent S comes in three colors – brushed aluminum, black, and red. The frame is custom 6061 heat-treated aluminum alloy which creates a sleek and seamless bone structure. It resembles its predecessor, the RipCurrent. However, the RipCurrent S doesn’t have a step-through design, leaving riders to throw their leg over unless they opt for the RipCurrent S Step-Through. The RipCurrent S Step-Through has nearly the same features and amenities, just with a few new and exciting color choices.
Like each Juiced e-bike, an advanced matrix LCD is included on the RipCurrent S, which features real-time metrics. Cruise control, headlight, throttle assist, speed, and battery life are all controlled from here. It reads out amps, watt-hours, amp hours, and temperature in the advanced menu. It’s water-resistant, backlit, and fully integrated into the handlebar.
This e-bike is on sale for $2,099 at a discount from $2,399 at the Juiced Bikes online store. Each size is the same price, which is a pleasant surprise. This is still a valuable price considering the same amenities you receive from more expensive e-bikes. Plus, it offers the standard 1-year warranty, free shipping, support, and service
Overall, the RipCurrent S is a reliable e-bike with a decent range, high speeds, and a very powerful battery. It appears sportier and less bulky than some other Juiced bikes, which could make for a better ride for some who prefer it that way.
