Electronic bikes have made incredible strides in recent years.
Expert Review :Electronic bikes have made incredible strides in recent years. Transforming from clunky and unappealing monstrosities to sleek and streamlined technological marvels that make you feel like you just stepped into the future, E-bikes are becoming more and more popular. Thus, we have the Bunch Original Electric Cargo Bike.
Designed to fit your life, whether you’re picking up groceries or taking the kids for a cruise, this bike performs like none other. Packed with many features that make this a premium E-bike, you are sure to enjoy this ride. But with a nearly $5,000 price attached to it, is the tech worth the tag? This guide will weigh the pros and cons of this bike, and in the end, we’ll see if this cargo bike pulls its own.
The first thing you’ll notice about this E-bike is that it’s not a bike at all! Its 3-wheel design technically makes it an Electric Tricycle. The 2-wheel in the front, 1-wheel in the back design offers a comfortable and highly stable ride, making riding on the beach or hilly streets equally safe.
The bike’s frame is minimal, maintaining the illusion that this could, in fact, just be a regular bike with a large basket built onto it. This bike manages to toe the line between simplistic and rugged, appearing simultaneously sleek and tough; Aesthetic, yet capable.
The Bunch Original Electric Cargo Bike sports a single steering bar that closely resembles that of a shopping cart. This steering bar attaches to the basket and front wheels and flaunts a display that will show a speedometer, an odometer, the battery level, and the pedal assist level.
The attached basket features four separate seat belts, allowing safe transport of the little ones. It features an anti-slip textured child step on either side, removable locking storage benches, a protective rubber liner, and is constructed from durable marine-grade plywood. This cargo box is built to perform and designed to last.
Another prominent feature of this cargo bike design comes by way of its lighting. With its Spanninga Axendo 60 headlight that puts out 60 lux from two REBEL LED’s and its built-in Spanninga Lineo tail-light, you can be confident that you will both be seen and be able to see in even the darkest of conditions.
The Bunch Original Electric Cargo Bike is loaded with features that make this bike a luxury E-vehicle, starting from the most obvious: the cargo box. Store your gear or anything you like in the lockable storage benches, or easily remove them with no tools required if you need more space.
The cargo box is also adorned with four 3-point, non-slip seat belts that will guarantee your little one’s safe arrival. The front reflectors also add a layer of visibility that keeps you seen on the road. That isn’t all that this box has to offer, however.
You can also purchase a myriad of attachments ranging from the rain cover that closes up to keep your kids or your merchandise dry, to a child seat for children 7-18 months old, to bench cushions that allow riders to enjoy the cruise in absolute comfort.
This 3-wheel E-bike is designed like a cruiser, handling hills and passengers without a problem. To do this, it needs the power to do so. Delivering that power, 45 Nm of torque to be exact, is a 500w motor that quickly makes short work of hills and sand alike.
Powering this motor is a state-of-the-art 48v, 13.6 Ah battery that uses Samsung 35E cells. This means that you not only have the power to move, but you can continue to move for up to 35 miles per charge!
What could be more important than moving in an E-bike? Stopping! With the weight and precious cargo you can carry in the cargo box, you need to ensure that you can stop when you need to.
This stopping power is brought to you by front and rear Tektro hydraulic disc brakes. These hydraulic brakes offer the power needed to bring the heavy bike to a stop and the accuracy to do it without making the front wheels turn.
This bike features a USB port, allowing you to charge your phone on the ride! Never run out of power again!
The 3-Wheel design of this E-bike makes it a very stable ride. The Anti-Tip Smart-Frame makes it much easier to turn, leaning the rider’s weight into the direction of the turn and ensuring all three wheels stay where they’re supposed to be: on the ground.
Whether kids or groceries or camping gear, this cargo bike boasts both the space and power to easily get it where you’re going on all but the steepest inclines.
The brakes are genuinely powerful enough to stop you quickly and efficiently, even under a load or on a hill.
Users report that the ride can get rough for the little ones in the basket. Of course, the bench attachment sold separately can offset this, but passengers will feel a little jostled at higher speeds or bumpy roads.
At $4,499, this bike costs as much as some used cars. It is expensive for an E-Bike, and though it is definitely a top-tier bike, it is hard to justify the price tag.
After reviewing the Bunch Original Electric Cargo Bike, we are down to one overall question: Is this bike worth it? Well, yeah, it certainly can be.
This bike is truly a marvel of technology. It offers a decent range, impressive power, plenty of towing space, and a plethora of add-ons that you can purchase to make the cargo space even more efficient. If you live in an area of congested traffic with bike lanes and you work ten miles or less from your home, this bike could absolutely be worth it. You can use it reliably in place of a car or truck to do most of what you need to do, from commuting to grocery shopping.
If you, however, live in a place that doesn’t have the infrastructure to make daily biking viable, this bike isn’t for you. If you are casual looking to purchase an E-bike for fun and entertainment, unless you are independently wealthy, then this bike probably isn’t for you. A much cheaper bike could offer just as much fun as this one. That said, while this bike is probably worth every cent of the price tag, many would consider going with a cheaper yet comparable option.
