If you’re looking for simplicity, style, affordability, and accessibility in your e-ride, Wing’s Freedom X Electric Bike may be the e-Bike you’re looking for. This upgraded Wing Freedom 2 has the same frame in a smaller design. It includes some newer features that provide much-needed add-ons to enhance the ride.
This e-Bike gives riders more than just the experience of a cool-looking bike. This is a lightweight, speedy ride with safety and practicality in mind. The Freedom X is much like a Dutch VanMoof in terms of speculations, look, and affordability, but ultimately this e-Bike is unmatched.
Wing Freedom X is powered by a 36V/550W Bafang rear hub motor centered in the rear wheel. It gives 45Nm of torque, which is an impressive output that hits a sweet spot for city travel. Unlike most other Wing bikes, this one has a torque sensor that helps the ride become smoother and more manageable. New or experienced lovers of e-Bikes will appreciate the power and reliability they receive from the motor alone.
The battery is detachable and seamlessly frame integrated which makes the design resemble more of a regular bike rather than an e-Bike. The choice of battery is customizable to meet the range and charging needs of the rider. The 8.5Ah battery is the smallest amp option that cranks out 35 miles per charge, best suited to the beginner or traveler of short distances. The other battery choices are the 10.4Ah and 14Ah, which allow 45 and 60 miles per charge, respectively.
Each choice is 36V with the same size (15.5*3.6*3.4 inches), and each weighs about 5 pounds. They all give the rider 4 hours to charge for the longest ride possible and can be locked with a key to avoid theft. Of course, the bigger the amperage of the battery, the better the feel of the motor’s torque.
Freedom X gives five levels of pedal assist and a seven-speed Shimano Tourney RapidFire mechanical gearing. Once the brakes are activated, the motor and pedal assist turns off. While this bike operates primarily by pedal assist, the scalable throttle helps push the bike from the max speed of 20mph to 24-25mph. The Freedom X comes with cable 180mm stainless steel mechanical disc brakes, which are a bit heavy, even for a lightweight bike. Nevertheless, the braking system is adequate and strong.
The Freedom X is built with the same iconic style as the Freedom 2 with two colors available – silver and black. This newer version doesn’t skip out on functionality and comfort. The frame is made of lightweight aluminum alloy 6061, which is quite sturdy. The stem, saddle post, and handlebars are all made from high polish alloy, and an optional handlebar riser comes in the box to help those who want a more upright high reach.
The handlebars have a swept-back ergonomic look and feel to them. They are more closely aligned with the rider’s chest for optimal comfort as well. Overall, the bike accommodates riders from 5’6” to 6’4”. Depending on the color bike you choose, there are puncture-resistant Kenda or Innova tires that are 26*1.75 inches with a low center of gravity. Puncture resistance will put the rider at ease in urban environments where the terrain can get a little rougher.
Wing’s Freedom X inherits some updated features that give other e-Bikes a run for their money. First, the new built-in centered LCD is a step up from the previous digital display mounted on the left handlebar. It can track speed and distance, show the battery and assist levels, control the loudness of the horn, and activate the lights.
The Freedom X is equipped with powerful LED lights integrated into the front and the back. The lights instill the qualities of true-to-brand headlights with a white display in the front and a red display in the rear. Day or night, you’re guaranteed to see and be seen.
One of the coolest tech features of this e-Bike is its anti-theft alarm and locking system built into the frame. It utilizes tamper censoring technology that will sound an ear-piercing alarm if the bike is moved while it’s locked. Just use the key fob linked to the bike and lock/unlock it when you leave the bike and enlist extra peace of mind.
At only 39 pounds, this e-Bike is a breeze to travel with compared to other e-Bikes. Starting at $1,448 with over 1,000 bikes already sold, saying this e-Bike is an upgrade is a bit of an understatement. Freedom X also comes with a 1-year warranty on the major parts of the bike, including the frame, battery, and electronics. With the new tech features and throttle options, the updated Freedom X is worth the extra money compared to its late counterpart.
The Wing Freedom X e-Bike is perfect for beginners due to its simplicity. Regular riders will appreciate the speed and power but will notice the lag in braking. This e-Bike is lightweight, affordable, reliable, and capable of preventing theft and unwanted tampering. The design of the bike provides an air of charm, while the frame color and battery choices allow for a custom and personalized ride.
